Vicalvano Apartments are situated on the Amalfi Coast, near the National Road 163, 4 km (2.5 miles) from Sorrento and 7 km (4.3 miles) from Positano. These apartments are located in a large and quiet garden (20000 acres wide) and they belong to the tourist complex “Antico Parco del Principe”, where, in the middle there is a castle which belonged to the Prince Edoardo Colonna Doria del Carretto (1855). Near the fortress, then, there is still a small ancient church, the stables and high walls which still surround the estate. The magnificent complex overlooks the landscape and the ocean in the distance. It is an incredible place where Mother Nature, like a divine lady, show totally her beauty: high mountains (“Milky Mountains”) behind the Castle and the Residence, luxuriant holm oak and oak trees, and an intense blue all around: the sky and the ocean. Residence Vicalvano is a nice villa divided in 8 apartments of different size but all of them are of good taste.

The chain of mountains of the Sorrento Peninsula is called “Milky Mountains” because in Roman times the local people of the area used to produce milk and cheese: still nowadays a typical cheese of this territory is the well-known “mozzarella”.

DESCRIPTION:

After entering the gate, You see a lot of centuries-old holm and oak trees and a driveway which goes uphill gradually. Beyond a bend You see the Chapel of Saint Peter. It was the private chapel of the princes who lived here. According to the legend, it rose on spot where Saint Peter stopped to rest during his journey to Rome. Close to the small church, a wide car parking is available: it is free for the guests of the Vicalvano Apartments. But when You turn Your eyes on the right-hand side, suddenly You see a large area without trees, but only a lawn where a massive Castle rises sumptuously. It is a magic place, close to Sorrento and Positano, and You feel Yourself in most peaceful place of the world: here time has stopped. The castle, with its towers and its battlemented walls, it is the historical heart of the tourist complex. The Colonna Castle, which dates back to the year 1080, used to be a Benedictine Abbey. Later, it became the famous historical residence of Prince Eduardo Colonna Doria Del Carretto. On one of the walls near the fortess the coat of arms of the noble family is still visible. When You go there, You understand why the prince loved to abandon the frivolous world to take refuge in this Earthly Paradise. In past times, famous scientists and personalities were welcome here, whilst, nowadays some rooms of the castle and the garden are open to the public. From there, some narrow foot-pathes lead to different directions: the swimming-pool, the tennis courts, the beach-volley field and the Vicalvano Apartments, beyond the Castle. Actually, if You wish to go to the apartments, on the other side of the garden, there is another way, which is carriage, which takes as far as there and the guests of the the Vicalvano villa can park their cars for free near their houses. In case there is no space anymore near the villa, You can leave Your vehicles in the parking area near the Saint Peter Chapel (200 meters away from the Vicalvano houses). When You reach the Vicalvano Apartments, You see a big green villa among other centuries-old oak-trees. In summer these dwellings enjoy the shelter taken by these trees. Anyway, when You are there and You turn back, You can see the Castle, and in the background a wide scenery of the coast, the splendid blue of the sky and the sea. The air is clear and perfumed and the weather is mild all the year long. In the villa there are 8 different apartments, according to Your different needs: the one-roomed apartment, the two-roomed apartment and the three-roomed apartment, with a total capacity of 30 people.

THREE ROOMED-APARTMENT (TYPE C):

This apartment is roughly 60 square meters (650 square feet) and it can sleep up to 6 people. It has two bedrooms, two bathrooms with shower, and a living room with a sofa-bed (a double-bed for two people). The living room is equipped with a TV colour, a kitchenette, which has a two-burner cooker and a refrigerator. The furnishings are refined and comfortable, with wall paintings and majolica tiles, according to the local style. The bathroom with shower is equipped with an hairdryer. The apartment has the central heating. In addition the guests of the apartment can use the outdoor space, equipped with a table and chairs. It is possible for them to dine and to rest in the open air.
The complex is approximately 300 meters (360 yards) from the bus stop, as well as from shops and restaurants. The village of Piano di Sorrento is approximately 1.5 km (1 mile) from the villa. Staying at Residence Vicalvano Type C you will be able to discover the unmatchable beauty of the coast of Sorrento, of Capri, and of the other islands of the Gulf of Naples, of the coast of Amalfi and of Naples.
From Sorrento you will be able to board the ferries that go to Capri and Ischia, and the ferries, or buses, that go to Positano, Amalfi and Naples. Moreover, if you are fond of archeology, you will be able to easily reach Pompeii, Herculaneum and Paestum. It will be an unforgettable stay.

FACILITIES:

The tourist complex “Antico Parco del Principe” is an ideal place for those people who wish to banish all their cares and look for a magic, quiet place, away from the stressful rithm of the everyday life. The spot is absolutely amazing and obviously cars are kept away. But at the same time a large garden (20000 acres wide), a nice swimming-pool, tennis courts, a beach-volley field, a mini-soccer field, a table-tennis, and bar make any stay very enjoyable. These facilities can be used for free and they are shared among the guests of this exclusive complex, who reside in the buildings that are located in the park.

In particular, the swimming-pool of the tourist complex “Antico Parco del Principe” is considered one of the most beautiful in Sorrento area. It is very large, 14 meters (46 feet) by 26 meters (85 feet), and it is equipped with a large solarium. There is also a smaller pool close to the big one and a sliding-board, just for kids. The swimming pools work from May, 20th, until September, 30th. Near the pool there is a bar.

The deck chairs of the swimming-pool will be paid apart: their use is free for guests who spend at least two weeks in the Residence Vicalvano.

Near the swimming-pool a table-tennis table too is available. And for Your childen some merry-go-rounds are waiting for them.

The tennis court and the mini-soccer field too are availble for free. They are close to the swimming-pool and if You need the racquet and the balls for playing tennis or the ball for playing football, ask them by the bar of the swimming-pool: they’ll be glad to lend them for free.

Another chance to enjoy Yourself is the beach-volley field. The use of this field in sand is free and it is totally surrounded by beautiful oleander plants. This place is another of the amenities where You can spend Your free time and where You can meet the other guests of the complex.

If You like trekking, an idea to explore the surroundings is to walk along the foot-path which starts from the Castle to arrive as far as Amalfi: that itinerary is called “the path of the Gods” for its beauty, because on the way You can see at the same time the Amalfi Coast and the Sorrento one.

For those of You who are gourmet, if You like fish, the ideal Restaurant for You is “Silenzio Cantatore”, which is near the tourist Complex “Antico Parco del Principe”. FROM ROME BY CAR :

From Rome reach the main road "A1"direction south (Napoli) and, after leaving Naples, take the main road "A3" to Napoli - Salerno (Not Tangenziale Napoli). Follow always the brown sign “Penisola Sorrentina”. At Castellammare di Stabia, take the road to Sorrento.

FROM ROME AIRPORT BY PUBLIC MEANS:

There is a shuttle that connects the Airport with the main railway station in Rome. From Rome there are several trains to Naples (The trip takes approximately 2 hours). In alternative, (only during working days) from the Tiburtina train station You can take the bus of “Marozzi” company that leaves from the capital at 7:00 am and 3:00 pm: the bus takes directly to Sorrento ( Euros 15.99).

FROM CAPODICHINO AIRPORT IN NAPLES BY CAR:

From Naples Capodichino Airport You should follow the motorway A/3 Naples-Salerno as far as the exit Castellammare di Stabia; once You are in Castellammare di Stabia You follow the National Road 145 (SS 145) as far as Sorrento which is about 48 kms away from Naples.

FROM CAPODICHINO AIRPORT IN NAPLES BY PUBLIC MEANS:

From Naples airport You can take a taxi or bus to the railway station at Piazza Garibaldi. At the main train station Piazza Garibaldi in Naples You will be able to board the local Circumvesuviana trains which leave for Sorrento every 20 minutes all day long. In alternative, from the Naples Capodichino Airport You can take the bus of “Curreri” company that takes directly to Sorrento with departure at 9:00 am – 11:30 am – 01:00 pm – 02:30 pm – 04:30 pm – 07:00 pm. (The trip takes approximately 1 hour).
