Sorrento (16.536 inhabitants), situated 50 km. from Naples on the Sorrento coast, has been famous since the last century for its serene landscape. It is a long terrace suspended on the sea facing the island of Capri. Torquato Tasso was born here, author of the poem "Jerusalem, Freed». Its orange groves are famous; also the Correale Museum, rich in furnishings, paintings and ceramics, songs like "Come Back to Sorrento", the Tarantella. For some years "International Encounters of the Cinema" organised by the Provincial Tourist Board (PTB) have been held here.
